Ghana may go the way of Rwanda, If … Nii Lante

The embattled National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ododiodioo Constituency in Greater Accra, Nii Lante Vanderpuiye, has warned that Ghana may go the way of Rwanda, Burundi or Yugoslavia, if certain groups continued to be discriminated against.

According to Nii Lante, Ghana is sitting on a time-bomb, because a number of groups believe that they have the upper hand over others.

?What happened in Burundi, Rwanda and Yugoslavia will happen in this country if this perception continues?, he told a youth forum organised by the Youth Network for Human Rights and Democracy (YOU-NET), for youth wings of political parties, in Accra, on Wednesday.

Nii Lante Vanderpuiye, who is currently standing trial in an Accra Circuit Court, for an alleged electoral fraud, did not mention the groups being discriminated against. However, he hinted the perception was growing.

His war-drumming, Daily Guide has learnt, predates the forum. Nii Lante is alleged to have made a similar offensive comment at the Ghana Institute of Journalism where he teaches on part-time basis. He is reported to have stated that Ghana will be turned to Liberia, if NDC loses the December elections.

Certain participants at the forum expressed surprise that such utterances were emanating from future leaders of the country.

Mr Razak Abdulai, a former secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS, and NPP activist, particularly expressed concern about the utterances coming from future political leaders of the country, when he stated, ?if the people present here are the type of leaders the country will produce, then Ghana is in trouble?. Mr Abdulai?s observation received an overwhelming applause from other participants.
