Kampala — GHANA’s state minister for fisheries Eddie Akita has said he will teach fish farming skills acquired in Uganda to the Ghanaians so that they stop importing fish.
“In Ghana, we import about 200,000 metric tonnes of fish worth $250m annually though we export between 60,000 and 70,000 metric tonnes of Tuna Fish to the Western world annually,” Akita said.
Akita said this recently while visiting Tukundane Fish Farm in Mbarara.
The farm is the leading supplier of Tilapia Fish in Uganda. It supplies one million fish fry to the Government every six months.
The principal fisheries officer in-charge of aqua-culture development, Waiswa Mwanja, said Uganda exports 90,000 tonnes of fish annually.
