Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has made a bold declaration ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, speaking to GhOne Tv, he expressed confidence that Ghana is ready to make history on the global stage.
“I see the 2026 World Cup as an African World Cup, and Ghana is poised to win it,” he said, highlighting the growing strength of African football and the Black Stars’ renewed belief after sealing qualification.
Ghana booked their ticket to the tournament with a dramatic 1–0 victory over Comoros in Accra, securing their fifth appearance at the World Cup. The competition, to be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, is expected to feature an expanded format with more African teams than ever before.
Mr. Adams believes this presents a unique opportunity.
“This is the time for Africa to rise. We have the talent, we have the experience, and Ghana will be leading that charge,” he added.
The Minister’s comments reflect the growing optimism within the country, following improved performances under head coach Otto Addo and the emergence of a new generation of stars like Mohammed Kudus and Anthony Semenyo.
He also called for unity, urging Ghanaians to rally behind the national team as preparations begin.
Ghana’s best World Cup performance came in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals, narrowly missing out on a historic semi-final place. With confidence building once again, many fans believe 2026 could be the year Ghana and Africa go even further.
