Ghana in ‘sorry’ state – Akufo-Addo

The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has called on the public to join forces with the party to reverse what he describes as a “troubled country in crises” when he becomes president.

At the launch of the NPP’s 2016 Fund Raising Campaign, which was held at the Asylum Down headquarters of the party in Accra on Wednesday February 13, the flagbearer reiterated the need to improve the economy and lives of Ghanaians.

He accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of running the country down through incompetence and mismanagement, and urged for a change to make him president of the country at the November 7 polls.

Nana Akufo-Addo said the NPP’s campaign is targeted at “every single Ghanaian who is depressed and dejected at the sorry state in which our country is”.

He lamented the dwindling fortunes of the agricultural and manufacturing sectors and criticised the “failed healthcare system due to the collapse of the National Health Insurance Scheme”.

Nana Akufo-Addo emphasised the need to clamp down on “heightened corruption”, while managing inflation and taxes as businesses struggle.

The former Attorney General, who is having a third go at the presidency after two failed attempts, said unemployment has become worse under President John Mahama. He has asked Ghanaians to help him unseat President Mahama.

In attendance at the launch of the fund raising campaign was former Minister of Trade and one-time NPP flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kyeremanten; Acting national chairman of the NPP, Mr Freddie Blay and other high profile guests of the party.
