Ghana hosts Commonwealth meeting

Accra, Oct. 13, GNA – Ghana would host a meeting of Commonwealth Law Ministers and Attorney-Generals from October 17 to 20, this year. President John Agyekum Kufuor would open the conference scheduled to take place at the Accra International Conference Centre at 1700 hours next Monday.

The Conference would be in line with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting next month in Malta, on the theme ” Networking the Commonwealth for Development”.

A statement Mr D. A. Kwapong, Acting Director of the Information Services Department signed on Thursday said the meeting would facilitate sharing of experiences and the development of ways to strengthen collaboration on legal issues in the Commonwealth.

Ministers from the 53 Commonwealth countries would deliberate on important issues including; terrorism and the control of the proliferation of small arms, ammunition and light weapons in the commonwealth and global issues and their impact on international law. It said the ministers would adopt model bills on the Protection of Personal Information and Competition Law and Intellectual Property Law, as well as the Commonwealth Plan of Action for Gender Equality.
