Ghana hosts AAPAM Conference

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA – Ghana hosts the 30th Roundtable Conference of African Association for Public Administration (AAPAM) at GIMPA from October 6-10.

About 300 public administration experts, practitioners, managers and academicians from Anglophone and Francophone countries in Africa would attend the conference under the theme “Enhancing Performance of the Public Service in a Developmental State”.

Mr Joe Donkor Issachar, Head of Civil Service addressing a press conference, said it would address specific issues of contemporary relevance and concern based on the experiences of policy makers, senior public officials, corporate and civic leaders as well as renowned public administration scholars.

He said the conference would in addition, examine the applicability of measures taken by some industrialised countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia to strengthen their public services to spearhead development.

Mr Issachar said participants would be equipped to work towards the elimination of poverty and diseases in society. He announced that Ghana Civil Service had already trained officers at all levels to improve competence and that would be the basis for promotions. Ghana is a founding member of AAPAM since its inception in 1978 and this year’s conference is the second to be hosted in Accra. She was selected to host the conference after the 29th conference held in Mbabane, Swaziland.
