Ghana hosts 8th Pan-African Congress

President John Dramani Mahama will on Thursday preside over the official opening ceremony of the Pan-African Congress to be held at the International Conference centre.

A statement issued and signed by Mr Kwasi Adu, Local Organizing Committee of the Pan-African Movement (PAM) said at least three other African heads of state are expected to attend.

It said delegates from around the world have already begun arriving in Accra for the Congress.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr. Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of PAM says the 8th Pan-African Congress will not be a single event but a process.

“We have taken a leaf from the second Pan-African Congress (PAC) which was held in Paris, London and Brussels in 1921. The first phase of the 8th PAC will be held from 4th -7th March and the second phase before May, 2016,” Mr Pratt said.

The Congress will identify key issues and struggles of the Global Pan African Family under the theme “The Pan African World We Want.”

It will also review the resolutions of the 7th PAC held in April 1994 in Kampala, Uganda in April 1994.

The PAM is a people-driven organization which led to the formation of the Organization of African Unity and the African Union in 1963. The first PAC was organized in London in 1900
