Ghana Highways Authority closes Wa/Tumu road

Jeffisi (U/W), Aug 19, GNA – The Ghana Highways Authority in the Upper West Region has closed down the Hain/Tumu road following complete failure of the top slabs of two bridges between Nandomwala and Jeffisi.

The GHA has therefore directed all vehicles plying the road to either use the Wa-Wahabu-Wellembelle road or Hain-Zini-Gwollu road to Tumu and continue to Bolgatanga while measures were taken to rehabilitate the bridges.

Mr Kwaku Addo-Okyere, the Upper West Regional Director of the GHA, gave the directive when he and the Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Issahaque Salia inspected the bridges.

He said any driver who flouted the directive would be doing so at the peril of his life and those of the passengers.

Mr Addo-Okyere said many of the bridges and culverts were built in the 60s, had outlived their designed periods and needed to be rehabilitated.

He said the two bridges needed to be rehabilitated under a certificate of emergency.

Alhaji Salia appealed to the government to rehabilitate roads in the region, saying: 93On my way to Funsi today, I counted four lorry accidents on the road and this explained how bad roads in the region are.”
