Accra, Nov. 30, GNA – The Ghana Heart Foundation has not achieved its goal of netting at least 500 cedis from one million Ghanaians to support the capital intensive treatment of cardio-vascular diseases in the country.
Dr Lawrence Sereboe, Consultant, Cardio-Therapy Surgeon at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, said in Accra on Wednesday that the situation was making it difficult for the Foundation to provide free heart surgery to most patients, who could not afford to pay the 50 per cent of the cost.
Dr Sereboe said this when the Harvest Chapel International presented a cheque for 15 million cedis to the Foundation. He said hole in heart was a common disease among children and advised nursing mothers to refrain from taking drugs that had not been prescribed by doctors. Mr Bethel Donkor, Head of the Board of Deacons of the Church, said the money was proceeds of a fund set up in memory of the late Edith Agyeman-Zuta, a philanthropist and a member of the Church.
