The Ghana Health Service is warning of a likely outbreak of cholera especially in the Greater Accra Region with the onset of the rainy season.
The Director of Public Health of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Badu Sarkodie said one confirmed case of cholera was reported in the capital last month and is likely to spread considering the insanitary conditions in Accra.
Dr Sarkodie said the Service has started identifying and testing diarrhoea patients above five years to test the possibility of cholera so that they can contain it promptly. He said the surveillance is on-going across the country.
Dr Badu Sarkodie said the Ghana Health Service is stepping up efforts to tackle any likely outbreak of diseases during this rainy season.
He said apart from the monthly disease surveillance, the service is collaborating with local government agencies and others to sensitize the people to prevent diseases such as cholera and malaria during this rainy season.
