Ghana Gas doomsayers warned

The Ghana National Gas Company is accusing some persons and institutions of resolving to derail the commissioning of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant.

“We urge everybody to avoid peddling untruths that could undermine the efforts that have gone into the completion of this all-important project, over the past two and half years.”

The processing plant saw its first flow of gas on Monday but that happened after a letter by regulators the Energy Commission caused a scare, resulting in an emergency meeting of stakeholders.

By the letter, the Commission had raised concerns over the readiness of the valves and pipes for gas processing.

But a statement signed by Dr Kwesi Botchwey, the Board Chairman of the Company, said the plant was constructed under strict regulations “by one of the largest companies in the industry that is heavily involved in the full spectrum of the gas processing value chain from design to construction to operation.”

The statement added: “Ghana Gas staff and engineers in the field are also well-trained, competent and capable of managing the processes leading to commissioning and the management of operations at the plant.”

The plant is expected to provide crude oil to fuel the country’s thermal plants especially the one at Aboadze.

“As the days go by, we will provide Ghanaians with regular updates on the integrated commissioning phase, up until when we are finally ready to provide regular supplies of lean gas to the VRA Aboadze Complex.”
