Ghana Freemasons seek independence

Accra, March 17, GNA- A Subordinate Lodge of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ghana, has declared its independence from the Irish Constitution of Freemason and is to be known as Grand Lodge of Ghana.

Freemasonry is a non-religious, non-political charitable organisation that operates on the three pillars of brotherly love, relief and truth and expose members to good morals.

A statement signed by Mr Kwame Johnson, a member of the Lodge said Mr Patrick Offei-Henaku, a 76 year- old former and the most Senior member of the Subordinate Lodge moved the motion, which was adopted by the 17 members present without any dissent, at the Achimota Masonic Hall.

It said some of the benefits to accrue to Ghana were the retention of annual subscription of lodges, fees paid by members, purchases of regalia among other things.

The statement said other subordinate lodges across the Province of Ghana would vote on the issue.

It said African countries like Togo, Mali, Benin, La Cote d’ Ivoire and South Africa had established Grand lodges of their own.
