Ghana Federation of Disabled expresses condolence to late President Mills’ family

The Ghana Federation of the Disabled on behalf of its members has expressed sadness at the untimely death of Professor John Evans Atta Mills.

A statement issued and signed by Mr. Joseph Adu Boampong, President of the Federation, said the late President’s passion for the development and inclusion of persons with disability in society, as well as their effective participation in all development programmes, was evidenced in the inauguration of the National Council on Persons with Disability within his first hundred days.

“He ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability, assented the mental health Act without delay, launched the training of five thousand persons with disability in ICT across the country and was ever ready to support all activities of persons with disability, including disabled sports,” it said.

“The disability movement in Ghana expresses its sincere condolence to the family of the late President, especially his wife and to the president of Ghana, as we join all Ghanaians to mourn the loss of our president and father. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement continued.

The statement also welcomed President John Dramani Mahama into his new office and encouraged him to continue with the good work of the late President, especially with regard to people with disabilities.**
