Ghana Federation of Disable appeal for share of Common Fund

Accra, March 10, GNA – The Ghana Federation of Disable (GFD) on Thursday complained about the difficulty people with disabilities were facing in accessing the two per cent of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund meant for their upkeep.

Mr Lawrence Ameyaw, Chairman of the GFD told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra that since 2010 the federation had not received their share of the fund, although Article 715 made it mandatory for the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies to allocate the money.

“People with disabilities in the country are going through hardship and we therefore call on the government to release the money to ease the burden,” he said. Mr Ameyaw appealed to the National Council of Disable, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Ministry of Social Welfare, Parliamentary Finance Committee and the National Co-ordinator of the Common Fund to assist the GFD to get the money to bring relief to members.
