Ghana determined to move into the ICT world-Kan-Dapaah.

Accra, Feb.18, GNA-Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Minister of Communication and Technology on Wednesday said Ghana was determined to move with the rest of the world into the emerging information and knowledge-based society.

He said the government had over the years, systematically put in place the necessary platforms to launch the country into the growing information and communication technology world.

Mr Kan-Dapaah said this at the formal launching of the West Africa Information and Communications Technologies Conference (AITEC)scheduled to take place in Accra from June 1-3.

This year’s conference, being organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Communication and Technology, is under the theme:” Building public private partnership and creating opportunities through ICT” The Minister said the conference could also focus on the need for the private and the public sectors to work in synergy to maximize the whole spectrum of opportunities in the ICT sector.

Mr Kan-Dapaah called for the motivation of the local mass media to divert some of their energies to help propagate ICT messages to all and sundry.

Dr Sam Somuah, a staff of the Office of the President said Ghana offered several advantages for the business processing outsourcing than most countries in the sub-region.

He said the cost of savings and the quality of its labour force could make the country an attractive destination for outsourcing compared to its competitors like Philippines and Malaysia. As part of the conference, the first ever ICT awards night would be organised to recognize the excellent contributions of individuals and organisations in the ICT sector.
