Ghana commits to Child Online protection

The Ministry of Communications is putting in place mechanisms that will ensure child online protection.

Children across the world are exposed to danger as cyber terrorism is on the rise. Some Ghanaian children have also had experiences with cyber bullying and seduction.

Communications Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has told XYZ news there is the need to protect the innocence of children and keep them safe from all harm.

He made a commitment to ensure child protection after signing an MOU with the Commonwealth Secretariat and the International Communications Union.

A component of the MOU oversees a policy which will build the capacity of security agencies and the judiciary to prosecute those who abuse children online.

He said although the MOU covered other areas Cyber monitoring, his ministry has prioritized children above all

“Of all these, child online protection is our utmost priority because our children must be protected while they are on the internet even much more than we protect them in their ordinary day to day lives because on the internet nobody is actually looking into that space, that imaginary almost cosmic space”.
