Ghana Commercial Bank Gives To Charity

Ghana Commercial Bank has since the beginning this year given a total of ?120 million to some institutions in fulfilment of its social responsibility. Last week the Bank gave ?10 million to Ghana National Trust Fund (GNTF) to support its equipment scheme. The equipment scheme was instituted by the GNTF to train disabled to be on their own.

Since the institution of the scheme, GCB has donated to its running. Last year the bank donated ?5 million.

“It is heart-warming to know that these persons are willing to work and earn income but are unable to do so due to their inability to purchase tools for the various trades they are being trained in,” says William Braford Bray, MD for GCB.

“We are happy that through the equipment scheme, the fund is able to assist 50 of such person every year with skills in carpentry, tailoring, dress making and hairdressing.”

Bray said it is the bank’s conviction and commitment that the equipment scheme changes the lives of many physically handicapped in the society.

Other bodies that received funding from GCB include; Ghana Bar Association (?8million), West African College of Surgeons (?5million), Institute of Public Relations (?2million), Ghana Law School (?5million), School of Administration (?5million), Ghana International Book Fair (?3.5million), the Yaa Asantewaa Centinary Celebrations (?2million) to mention a few.
