Ghana commends Angola for role in DRC

Accra, Nov. 15, GNA – Ghana has commended Angola for the positive contributions that country had made towards the political stabilisation of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Such contributions are in compliance with the call by the international community on African countries to intensify efforts towards the promotion of democratic practices, good governance, respect for the rule of law and human right on the continent,” Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Minister of State for Chieftaincy and Culture and leader of a government delegation said at a ceremony marking the 31st independence anniversary of Angola on Monday.

He said beyond forging strong bilateral ties with Angola, Ghana would also continue to work closely with other member states of the African Union to promote peace, stability and regional integration. The Minister announced that a number of projects had been initiated under the Ghana-Angola Joint Commission for Cooperation, including the exploration of oil in Angolan waters, a housing project in Kaxito in the Bengo Province, the partial rehabilitation of the Bom Irrigation Project as well as c ooperation in tourism, energy, education and cultural sectors.

The Angolan Ambassador Mr Jose Guerreiro Alves Primo said 93peace in Angola is definite=94 and that during the year the government extended the peace process to the Cabinda Province in the far north of the country under an agreement signed on August 1, this year. The Ambassador announced that a trade agreement to facilitate the inauguration of direct flights between Accra and Luanda is to be finalises this year and commended Ghana on her 50th anniversary, which is due in March next year.
