Accra, May 21, GNA – Ghana citizen’s journalism website, aimed at providing credible, balanced, developmental oriented and nationalistic in nature news items was launched in Accra on Saturday.
The site www.ghananewsandworldreport.com seeks to focus on developmental; economic; social; traditional; educational; science; tourism and culture; politics and governance; justices system; human rights and press freedom and other general news. The site which also exists to fill a critical void in the Ghanaian media landscape would broaden the scope of sports; business and economy; art and culture; entertainment and life, feature and views.
Launching the site in Accra, Mr Henry Mallet Editor-in-Chief and Mr Isaac Novi Managing Editor noted that the site intends to provide a platform for the voice of the voiceless, individual and corporate entities. Mr Mallet said the site would keep with the tradition of citizen journalism, adding: 93It is not our intention to censor our contributors, but we would readily grant equal opportunity to whoever is accused to respond to the allegations against him or her.”
“Our ultimate goal is to contribute our quota towards the evolution of a better Ghana and we have no apologies in this regard. Ghana belongs to all of us and it behoves=85 us all who truly love this country to contribute our quota towards making it a better place,” said Mallet.
Mr Novi explained that the managers of the site had instituted measures to prevent the publication of malicious and insulting stories. “The challenge is to ensure that such a site does not become the platform for falsehood and we are conscious of that”.
Responding to question from newsmen Mr Novi said “there is no way people can directly send stories to the site because they don’t have the code. Only things approved by the Managing Editor or Editor-in-Chief can be uploaded on the site. “The only way people could have had things written by them published unedited is if there is a provision for their comments to go directly to the site. Since Ghanaians may be shocked by some of the responses, we have not allowed (that), which is why there is no “COMMENT” at the end of our stores,” he explained.
