The Ghana cedi has appreciated by 24.1% against the US dollar in the first five months of 2025, according to the Bank of Ghana. This marks a significant turnaround from the 5.3% loss recorded in the first quarter of the year.

As of May 2025, the cedi traded at GH¢11.85 to the US dollar in the interbank market. The currency had gained 3.9% in value against the dollar in April 2025.

The cedi also strengthened against other major currencies, appreciating by 14.1% against the euro to GH¢13.33 and 16.2% against the pound to GH¢15.74 in the interbank market.

In recent trading, the cedi continued to gain ground, appreciating by 2.3% against the US dollar, 3.5% against the pound, and 3.7% against the euro. This brings its year-to-date gain to 17.7% against the US dollar in the retail market.

The Bank of Ghana’s injection of US$425.50 million into the retail market is believed to have contributed to the cedi’s recent strength.
