Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference gets new President

Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – The Most Reverend Lucas Abadamloora, Bishop of Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, has been elected President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for a three-year term. He has the Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle of Koforidua Diocese as his Vice President

A press release issued on Thursday from the National Catholic Secretariat and signed by the Executive Secretary, Mr Ben Assorow said the new change of leadership came after a successful election held at the end of a plenary Assembly of the Conference held at Damongo in the Northern Region from November 15 to November 23 2004.

Bishop Abadamloora succeeds His Eminence Peter Cardinal K. Appiah Turkson, who has served as President for seven years. According to the release, Cardinal Turkson remains the head of the Catholic Church in Ghana.

The Chairmanship of the Department of Social Communications went to Bishop Gabriel A. Mante of Jasikan Diocese while Bishop Philip Naameh of Damongo Diocese was appointed the chairman of the Education Department.
