Ghana-Canada Day Celebration in Toronto

July 1sst is an important day in the history of Ghana and Canada. It is celebrated each year as a holiday by the two countries. This year Ghanaian Canadians in the Greater Toronto Area converged at Rowntree Park to celebrate the day.

The event was organized by the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario and sponsored by Pan African Multicultural Centre of Al-Curuba Banquet Hall.and Western Union.

The Park was filled with a lot of fun and events as many people from our community gathered in groups at various locations to mark the occasion. The bright and beautiful weather that day also made it possible for several Cultural Associations to gather there to enjoy home-made dishes; others too had an open Barbeque served by Mr. Ben Ekuban and his wife, Regina of Al-Curuba Banquet Hall.

One of the sponsors, the Western Union had its usual Yellow and Black booth present at the park in support of the community.

Early during the day, the Ghanaian Community and the churches played several soccer matches to commence festivities.

In the capital city of Canada Ottawa, a large group of people gathered at the Parliament Hill to celebrate the day. It was the last Canada Day to be presided over by the Prime Minister Jean Chretien who retires next February. As usual the Night saw wonderful and beautiful fire works to end the celebration.
