Accra, Oct. 14, GNA- Dr Charles Wereko-Brobby, Chief Executive of the Ghana at 50 Secretariat, on Friday urged Ghanaians to rediscover their sense of pride and unity as Ghanaians.
He noted that Ghana fostered a united nation and united people some 50 years ago and there was real a peaceful atmosphere in the country, which, with time, was waning hence the secretariat’s objective to promote unity.
Dr Wereko-Brobby was speaking at the launch of a programme dubbed: “Ghana-as one” aimed at bring Ghanaians together to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
The programme organized by Agoo Media Limited and Joy FM in association with the Ghana at 50 Secretariat would be in a form of a launch expected to bring together about 4000 guests on March 10 2007. Dr Wereko-Brobby urged Ghanaians to support the idea to promote unity.
Mr. Martin Esson-Benjamin, a renowned marketing personnel, noted that Ghana-as-one would attempt to showcase Ghanaian achievements, successes and excellence.
“Ghana-as-one is an event that seeks to promote a certain ‘feel good’ factor about being a Ghanaian,” he said.
He said “the event would, from March 2007 be organized every year as a party to commemorate our independence.”
Calling on potential sponsors of the event, Mr Esson-Benjamin said Ghana was an enclave of peace and there was the need to invest in the country since investor would always safeguard and help sustain the peace.
“Ghana-as-one provides an excellent vehicle for marketing support activities. This is an event where your brands would drive the most benefit,” he held.
Mr Esson-Benjamin urged various organizations to indicate enthusiasm and support for the project.
Mr Kojo Bonsu, a member of the planning committee, speaking about the event said “Ghana-as-one” targets some African Presidents, resident and non-resident Ghanaians, the business community and professionals, foreign residents and some people of high repute. He said guests would be given a red carpet treatment with photographic sessions on arrival and pictures would be published in Agoo Magazine.
The event to be held at the Independence Square in Accra would have that National Symphonic Orchestra, the Winneba Youth Choir, the Ghana Dance Ensemble, local hip life musicians and international artiste performing.
Mr Atukwei Okai, a poet who chaired the function, lauded the event, saying Ghanaians needed to be able to boast of oneness of spirit. An exhibition of how the place would be like come March 10, 2007 was mounted for the guest. 14 Oct. 06
