Ghana and French navy undertake joint military exercise

Accra, Jan. 21, GNA – The French embassy on Thursday announced that a French Navy Ship “La Foudre” as part of it regular mission along the West coast of Africa will dock at the Tema Harbour on Tuesday January 26, 2010.

A statement signed by the French Embassy said the crew will join the Ghana Navy in common training activities including exercises at sea as well as in habour and ship visiting. The purpose of the visit according to the statement was to reinforce the existing tiers between the French and the Ghanaian Naval Forces.

It said: “La Foudre had already been drawn alongside in Ghana in December 2008 and February 2009.” The statement said the ship which is captained by Captain Philippe Petitdidier since 2009 has a staff of 19 officers, 125 petty officers and 102 member crew.

Within the framework of the visit and as part of its cooperation with the civil society, the Military Navy Staff will renew and modernize the Anani Memorial International School at Nima. The statement said “La Foudre” cast off Friday January 29, 2010. 21 Jan.10
