Ghana Among The Most Corrupt Countries Of The World

Ghana has been ranked the thirty-third most corrupt country in the world. Analysing the data from the angle of least corrupt country, Ghana, which shares that position with Latvia, is the fifty-ninth out of ninety-one countries.

The year 2001 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) published by Transparency International rates Bangladesh as the most corrupt country in the world. Bangladesh over-takes Nigeria, which is now rated the worlds second most corrupt country. The world’s five most corrupt countries include Kenya, Uganda, Indonesia, Nigeria and Bangladesh.

As many as fifty-five countries, many of which are among the world’s poorest are rated less than five in the CPI 2001 score, suggesting high levels of corruption. Transparency International Chairman, Peter Eigen says, though the world’s poor were the greatest victims of corruption, the developed world is in no justifiable position to preach to poor nations about integrity in government.

The first five least corrupt countries are Finland, Denmark, New Zealand, Iceland and Singapore. The CPI was first launched in 1995 and reflects the yearly degree to which corruption is perceived to exist among public officials and politicians.
