Ghana Allocates GHS150m for Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Campaign — Finance Minister

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ato Forson, announced a GHS 150 million allocation for the national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of their participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup during his budget presentation at Parliament.

The funding, detailed during the 2026 budget session, is earmarked to support the team’s preparation, logistics, and continental engagement as they aim to make a mark at their fifth World Cup appearance.

“We are allocating GHS 150 million for the Black Stars’ participation in the World Cup,” Mr Forson confirmed, outlining the government’s commitment to bolstering the country’s presence on football’s biggest stage.

Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 tournament after topping its African qualifying group. The budgetary support comes at a time when the nation is gearing up for a series of preparatory matches and training camps to sharpen its squad’s competitive edge.

Observers say the allocation reflects both the importance of football in Ghana’s national identity and the government’s recognition of sport’s unifying role. However, it also adds pressure on the technical team and administrators to ensure judicious use of the funds.

As the Black Stars continue their build-up towards the tournament, this financial backing will play a crucial role in ensuring they have the infrastructure and support needed to compete effectively on the global stage.
