Ghacem presents cement chits to 42 communities, institutions

Sekondi (W/R), Sept. 2, GNA – The Ghacem Cement Foundation on Wednesday presented chits for the allocation of 27,000 bags of cement worth 250 million cedis to 42 beneficiary communities and institutions in the Western Region.

Presenting the allocation letters to the beneficiaries, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the foundation said the presentation was meant to assist needy communities to complete ongoing projects, which included hospitals, clinics and schools.

He said the foundation supports more private schools than the public schools without thinking about the profits such schools make.

“All we want to do is to ensure that children in deprived communities have easy access to schools and healthcare delivery, to enable them to develop themselves and assist in nation building,” he added.

Nana Agyensaim who is also a board member of Ghacem said the Western Region had been the highest beneficiary of the foundation’s programme. Mr Joseph B. Aidoo, Western Regional Minister said the role of Ghacem in the Ghanaian economy, would soon increase after the integration of the West African markets.

He commended the management of Ghacem for the employment opportunities it continues to provide for the country and charged it to be prepared for increase in the demand of its products.

Madam Abena Konadu Agyeman, the Communications Manager of Ghacem said the foundation was launched two years ago as part of its social responsibility programme.

She said the foundation made a donation of 15,000 bags and 30,000 bags of cement in 2002 and 2003 respectively to a number of communities and institutions.

Madam Agyeman appealed to beneficiaries to use the cement for purposes for which they were applied and not to allow it to go waste.
