GGA invited to participate in quiz in USA

Accra, Nov.11, GNA – The Ghana Geographical Association (GGA) has been invited to participate in the 2005 edition of the World’s Brightest Geographic Whiz Kids Competition organised by National Geographic Association of the United States of America.

The Minister of Education Youth and Sports, Mr Kwadwo Baah Wiredu announced this at meeting with Executives of GGA, a release signed by Mr Paul Mark Owooh, Secretary of the Association, made available to the GNA on Tuesday said.

The statement said Mr Baah Wiredu promised to assist GGA to send the participants to the competition.

The competition is organised every two years and this year’s edition was won by 10 years old Calvin McCarter of Jenison, Michigan, USA, who took 25,000 dollars as his prize.

The statement said every country is to be represented by three competitors aged between 13 years and 16 years.

It said in view of the age limit, pupils in preparatory and Junior Secondary Schools should make up the team and appealed to Regional branches of the GGA to organise competitions to select regional representatives for a national contest.

The top three at the national contest would represent the country the statement said.
