GFA to Honour Asamoah Gyan with Testimonial Match To Celebrate His Legendary Career

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to organise a testimonial match in honour of legendary striker and former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, marking a grand celebration of his remarkable career and immense contribution to Ghanaian football.

In a statement, the GFA confirmed it is working closely with Gyan to finalise details of the event, which will serve as a befitting tribute to a player whose name has become inseparable from the history of Ghanaian football.

Affectionately known as “Baby Jet,” Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances and holds the record as Africa’s highest goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history, having netted six times across three tournaments, Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.

Beyond his exploits in the famous black and gold jersey, Gyan’s club career took him across several continents. He began at Liberty Professionals in Ghana before moving to Udinese in Italy, with a loan spell at Modena, followed by successful stints with Rennes in France and Sunderland in the English Premier League.

He later became a star attraction in the Middle East and Asia, enjoying a prolific spell at Al Ain and Al Ahli in the UAE, as well as Shanghai SIPG in China and Kayserispor in Turkey, before returning home to feature for Legon Cities FC.

Through his goals, leadership, and charisma, Gyan inspired generations of players and fans across the continent. The upcoming testimonial promises to be a celebration of a football icon whose legacy transcends Ghana’s borders and continues to inspire the next generation of African footballers.
