The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has clarified the absence of several key Black Stars players from the upcoming international friendlies against Japan and South Korea, citing “legitimate reasons” for their exclusion.
Speaking to Asempa FM, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said the decision to leave out certain regulars was made in the best interest of both the players and the national team’s long-term plans.
“The players who could not make it for the Japan and South Korea friendlies are out for genuine reasons,” Twum explained. “For the good of the FA and the team, we decided to leave them out.”
The Black Stars are set to face Japan on Friday, November 14, before taking on South Korea four days later as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
While the GFA did not disclose specific names, several reports suggest that a few Europe-based players are nursing injuries or managing fatigue after a packed club schedule.
Head coach Otto Addo is expected to use the Asian tour to assess fringe and emerging talents as Ghana continues to build toward next year’s world cup.
The GFA reiterated its commitment to maintaining a balanced approach, protecting players’ welfare while ensuring the national team remains competitive on all fronts.
