The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken full responsibility for the medical expenses of Black Stars midfielder Francis Abu, who sustained an injury during Ghana’s international friendly against Japan.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed that the football body has “covered the cost of the surgery and all other medical bills” following the player’s injury. Speaking on Asempa FM, he added that Abu is responding well to treatment and will return to his club once discharged.
“Once Francis Abu is discharged, he will rejoin his club, and the FA will communicate any additional support he may need,” Asante Twum said, emphasising the association’s commitment to the welfare of national team players.
Abu’s injury raised concern among fans and officials, prompting swift action from the GFA to ensure the midfielder received the required medical care.
The FA’s assurance comes amid growing conversations about player safety and support during international assignments. For now, the focus remains on Abu’s full recovery, with the GFA pledging to remain involved until he is medically cleared and fully settled back with his club.
