GETFund donates bus to YAGSS

Kumasi, May 3, GNA – The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) on Monday donated a 58-seater TATA bus worth 475 million cedis to the Yaa Asantewaa Girls Secondary School (YAGSS) in Kumasi.

The donation was part of efforts by the Fund to ease transportation problems facing some second cycle institutions in the country.

Presenting the bus, Mr Fosuaba Mensah Banahene, Administrator of the GETFund, said the provision of infrastructure in schools was a clear indication of government’s commitment to providing quality education in the country.

He commended the school for its higher academic performance and urged the students to study hard to attain higher academic laurels.

Mr Banahene announced the setting up of five million cedis personal scholarship scheme for students who would perform well in science subjects and said the GETFund would make resources available for the extension of the school’s assembly hall.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, urged the girls to desist from acts that could affect their welfare and concentrate on their studies to enable them pass their examinations.

Mrs Mary Ansong, Headmistress, thanked the government for its assistance to the school and said it was an indication of the government’s determination to the development girl-child education in the country.

She, however, appealed to the government to speed up work on the three-storey classroom block, which was under construction to ease congestion in the school.
