GETFund builds girls’ dormitory for Osei Tutu II College

Tetrem (Ash), May 26, GNA – The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) is putting up a two-storey girls’ dormitory for Osei Tutu II College at Tetrem in the Afigya-Sekyere District at a cost of three billion cedis.

Mr Samuel Ekuoba Gyasi, Headmaster, who led newsmen to inspect the project at the weekend said about 60 per cent of the project had been completed and it would be handed over to the school authorities before the beginning of the next academic year.

He said a four-unit multi-purpose laboratory block was also being constructed by the school under the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) on education at the cost of 500 million cedis. Mr Gyasi said when completed the block would be used for science and Information and Technology laboratories to make the students computer literates.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the rate of work on a four-unit teachers’ living accommodation initiated by the Afigya-Sekyere District Assembly about six years ago. Mr Gyasi said the unavailability of teachers’ living accommodation in the school was a great worry to the authorities and noted that most of the staff commuted daily to school from Kumasi and other nearby towns.

Mr Gyasi pointed out that other problems facing the school were the lack of means of transport and boys’ dormitory and appealed to the government, non-governmental organization, foreign embassies and philanthropists to assist the school.

He, however, commended Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, Member of Parliament for the area for his immense contributions towards the provision of infrastructure and other facilities to improve the school. The headmaster also lauded the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for providing the school’s basic needs and hoped other individuals would also help address problems in the school.
