Accra, June 15, GNA – Mr Alexander Tetteh-Enyo, NDC MP for Ada, on Wednesday asked the Board of the GETFund to present to Parliament all outstanding annual reports for scrutiny. “Since its inception the outstanding annual reports for 2001, 2002 and 2003 should be submitted to Parliament together with 2004 by August, this year.”
He said Parliament had no official idea about how the Board managed and administered the fund.
Mr Tetteh-Enyo was delivering a statement on the floor of the House on the management and administration of the Ghana Education Trust Fund. He said the importance of the annual reports could not be overemphasised, adding that, “it is through the discussion of these reports that members of this House may have the opportunity of contributing to the improvement of the management and administrative processes and disbursement of the fund.”
“It is from the Boards reports that we will discern the successful implementation or otherwise of the annual disbursement formulae or obtain information on projects executed and amount spent, and projects not implemented and what has become of the amount approved for them.” He said it would also help to update Parliament on the payment of arrears of GETFund from the VAT Secretariat.
Mr Tetteh-Enyo said two years ago, Parliament requested the Administrator of Fund to furnish it with information about how the GETFund projects were being implemented vis-=E0-vis donor fund projects. “That information has not yet been received. It was not surprising therefore that about two weeks ago there was heated argument in this House as to whether or not GETFund releases are being utilised together with HIPC Fund for the same purpose.” 15 June 05
