GES will not open schools where there are no classrooms

Asonkwaa (B/A), Dec 16, GNA- The Ghana Education Service will only give approval for the opening of a new school if the community has classroom accommodation and that for teachers, Mr Jarvis Agyeman-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education said on Tuesday.

Addressing the School Management Committee (SMC) and teachers of Asonkwaa Local Primary School in the district, he said lack of accommodation for teachers in some communities had forced teachers to commute daily from other towns to their schools.

”The District Directorate of Education will not make the mistake to approve of the opening of a new school at where these facilities are lacking, as it would disrupt steady teaching and learning,” he said. Mr Agyeman-Badu urged the people of Asonkwaa to redouble efforts and put up a school block and a teachers’ hostel to justify their demand for the opening of a junior secondary school in the town.

He deplored the poor structure serving as the classroom for the local kindergarten and cautioned that the directorate might be compelled to close down the school if the people fail to provide a better structure for the children.
