GES under fire at Ayeboafo

Ayeboafo (E/R), April. 10, GNA – The people of Ayeboafo near Okyereso in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, has accused the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the District Assembly for neglecting them. Speaking in interview at Ayeboafo, a cocoa growing community, Rev. Robert T. Nartey, an opinion leader said the people have been neglected in the provision of social amenities for too long after several appeals to the GES and the district assembly. Rev. Nartey said projects that the district assembly had denied the community include potable water, clinic, places of convenience and reshaping of their roads.

Mr. Asafo Adjei, Member of the Unit Committee, who later conducted the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to inspect the Ayeboafo Local Authority School, the only school in the area, established in 1952 and serving over 30 surrounding villages, said since its establishment, the school had not been renovated and had developed cracks, while the roofs were leaking. Mr. Adjei observed that the poor condition of the school block, which had four classrooms and two temporary sheds, posed a threat to the pupils. He said part of the walls of the class one room had fallen off due to erosion.

The Odikro of Ayeboafo, Baffour Edward Ahiakwa, said most communities in the Birim North District had some projects and therefore, he was not happy about the neglect of his community. Odikro Ahiakwa said the Member of Parliament for the constituency had not been visiting the area to know the problems of the people. He therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Local Government to consider extending social amenities to Ayeboafo in order to improve the living conditions of the people.
