GES to publish names of teachers with fake certs

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has indicated it will soon publish names of teachers with fake certificates, a situation delaying the processing of arrears of the teachers.

Out of 14,575 input forms that were initially submitted by teachers for processing and payment, only 6,268 were detected to be attached with genuine supporting documents, according to the GES.

“People want to point accusing fingers at us… Yes we employ them but those who are also collaborators are sometimes faster,” Mr. Jacob Kor, Director-General of the GES told Accra-based Citi FM.

However, he’s underscored the need for capacity building in order to address the dire situation on the grounds.

Three teacher unions; the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) have been demanding the payment of their salary arrears and threatened to strike.

The unions have called off an intended strike until the completion of the validation exercise.
