GES to deal with school heads who collaborated with absentee teachers

Winneba (C/R), Feb. 26, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said that head teachers who collaborate with teachers to receive their salaries even though they are not at post would be dealt with. “Circuit supervisor who sit in their comfort and generate reports which does not reflect the situation on the ground are a disgrace to the profession”.

The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Ms Benedict Nana Biney said these at the 8th Effutu Municipal Best Teachers Award winners’ ceremony in Winneba, during which 16 teachers and three non-teaching staff were awarded.

Ms Biney said the non-working officials are the very people who contribute to the sinking image of the profession. Such teachers, instead of rewarding them must rather face the disciplinary committee for the appropriate sanction to be meted out to them, she said.

“We empower the district education director to do everything humanely possible to prevent further sinking of the image of the teacher in this district”.

The Deputy Director General implored teachers to acknowledge that the teaching profession is a noble one and they must take pride in being a staff of GES.

She urged them to be diligent in maintaining professionalism and develop a high standard of service.

As educators, we must understand children’s needs and create both social and academic experiences that will motivate learning by tapping into the developmental needs and information level of children, she said.

Ms Biney said teachers are doing their part, and parents are expected to compliment the efforts through incentive packages and other sources of motivation, so that quality education can be achieved.
