GES says it has power to sack teaching assistants

Ahomahomasu (E/R), May 31, GNA – The Fanteakwa District Director of Education, Ms Mary Animwah, has said the Ghana Education Service(GES) has the authority to terminate the appointment of teaching assistants who abuse the code of ethics of the teaching profession. Speaking at separate functions at Obooho and Ahomahomasu during an inspection tour of schools, Ms Animwah said the teaching assistants have been posted to help improve teaching and learning in schools. She said reports reaching her indicated that most teaching assistants were disobeying their head teachers claiming they were not under the authority of the GES.

Ms Animwah said GES has the right to terminate the appointment of all disobedient teaching assistants and inform their employers accordingly.

She urged teaching assistants who wish to stay with the GES to reform and respect their head teachers.
