GES permits religious bodies to establish schools

Winneba (C/R), July 21, GNA – The General Manager of Methodist Schools, The Very Reverend Stephen Asher has said that the Ghana Education Service Council has given recommendation allowing religious bodies to establish, manage and maintain schools.

He said one of the objectives for establishing religious educational units was to supplement government’s efforts in providing quality education for all.

The General Manager announced this at a one-day capacity building workshop organised for stakeholders of Methodist Basic Schools in the Central Region at Winneba.

The stakeholders included 207 participants including Headteachers, Managers, Chairmen of School Management Committees, and Parent Teachers Associations.

The General Manager stated that the Ghana Education Service Council’s recommendation symbolised an appreciation for the good work being done by the religious bodies in terms of managing schools under their mission and said GES did appreciate the existing partnership with them.

He said all educational units should appoint local managers for effective supervision of their schools and inform District Directors of their local managers.

He said Regional Managers should work closely under the District Directors who had the overall responsibility of education in the Districts. The Rev Asher said that both GES and the Religious Education Unit should stick to the rules and show commitment towards achieving their common goal of efficient, effective and quality education delivery for Ghanaian children.
