GES officers attend Education Census Training workshop

Ajumako(C/R), Dec.19, GNA – Mr Thomas Hutton Coleman, Coordinator of Education Management Information System (EMIS) Project, has observed that without good quality and credible data, there could not be any meaningful Education Planning in the country.

He has therefore, appealed to regional and district Education Statistics officers to ensure that they provided data that could be properly used for National, Regional and district Education Planning. Mr. Coleman made the observation when addressing 167 Regional and District Education Statistics officers from the Western, Volta, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions at the end of a four-day Education Census Training Workshop at the Ghana Education Service Development Institute (GESDI), Ajumako, in the Central Region at the weekend. He asked the participants to come out with data that was reliable, relevant, timely, verifiable and consistent.

Mr Coleman said under the EMIS project, all Regional and district offices of the GES were to be equipped with the necessary computers to be manned by trained officers to produce and supply the needed Education Management Information to stakeholders as part of the country’s decentralisation policy.

He said under the project, personnel in 10 Regional and 50 districts had been trained and would soon have their offices computerized adding; “By 2007 all the 138 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts in the country would benefit from the project.”
