Techiman, July 13, GNA – The Ghana Education Service has urged professional teachers serving in partnership schools to cease their services by September so they could be posted to fill vacancies in public schools.
Mr Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, the Acting Techiman Municipal Director of Education, said this at a meeting with 25 of such teachers in the municipality.
Mr Agyemang-Badu said the GES has directed that professional teachers who would like to remain with the partnership schools should get their names deleted from the GES pay roll. The arrangement for GES teachers to serve in partnership schools became necessary at the beginning of the Education Reform Programme under the FCUBE project.
The Ministry of Education and GES entered into agreement with private schools to staff them with qualified teachers to enhance capacity building and the contract was for five years, from 1987 to 1992.
The GES directive said despite the deadline, some district directors of education had maintained the teachers in the partnership schools and they have continued to draw their salaries from the district directorates of education.
Mr Agyemang-Badu advised the teachers to inform their heads and proprietors/proprietresses of the directives and hand over any school properties in their possession.
He advised them to accept postings to public schools so they would continue to enjoy salaries from GES or their names would be removed from the service by September.
“Professional teachers who will decide to stay with partnership schools will not enjoy any promotion under the GES scheme of service nor benefit from any conditions that promote and seek the welfare of teachers”, Mr Agyemang-Badu said.
