GES closes two schools in Dormaa District

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Nov. 14, GNA- The Ghana Education Service (GES) has closed down two schools in the Dormaa District in Brong Ahafo due to poor enrolment.

The schools are the Roman Catholic Junior Secondary School (JSS) at Nyamea-Brofoyedu and the Local Authority JSS at Ampenkro.

Mr Eric Christian Atakorah, Assistant Director in-charge of Administration and Finance of the GES at Dormaa-Ahenkro, told the Ghana News Agency that the Roman Catholic JSS had a total of 21 students whilst the L/A JSS had an 12.

He explained that the policy of the GES was that the pupil-teacher ratio in the JSS should be 1:25, adding that under the prevailing conditions the schools had to be closed down.

The Assistant Director attributed the low enrolment to the fact that students at Nyamea-Brofoyedu prefer to attend school at nearby Diabaakrom Local Authority JSS whilst those at Ampenkro go to Wamanafo.

Mr Atakorah said the affected teachers in the affected schools had been transferred to other areas in the District.
