GES asked to appoint competent heads of basic schools

Koforidua Aug. 27, GNA – The Ghana Education Service (GES) has been asked to consider leadership qualities in appointing heads of educational institutions towards good quality education in the country.

This was contained in a paper presented by the New Juaben Governance Issues Forum Network (GIFNET), at a pre-dialogue workshop in Ho.

The GIFNET is an organization made of individuals from civil society organizations that give a platform for ordinary citizens to raise issues about governance for consideration of policy makers.

The event was organized for members drawn from six districts in the country where surveys on community issues have been carried out this month with the support of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEC).

New Juaben GIFNET said that educational institutions require heads that could motivate and inspire students and teachers in the wake of the New Educational Reform.

Mr Joe Appiah, Chairman of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan branch of GIFNET, called for the replacement of school buildings with designer blocks windows in the area to improve upon visibility in the classrooms and the provision of ceilings for classrooms to reduce heat.

Mr Silas Kojo Eghan of the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District branch of the GIFNET, called for the provision of more teachers’ bungalows to attract more trained teachers to the area.

Ms Ruby Quantson, Capacity Development Officer of IDEG, advised members of GIFNET to lobby for policy makers to consider their views in policy formulation.
