Ghana is to receive about 25 million euros annually from Germany to support her socio-economic development programmes, Mr Harold Loeschner, German Ambassador in Ghana, said on Friday.
Speaking in an interview with journalists after he accompanied a delegation of the Development Loan Corporation of Germany (KFW) to hold discussions with Vice President Aliu Mahama at the Castle, Mr Loeschner said his country would also support Ghana with substantial funds under the European Union.
The KFW delegation, led by Mr Wolfgang Kroh, its President, pledged to support Ghana’s agriculture, private sector development, road infrastructure and good governance.
Mr Loeschner said these areas, which had been identified by Ghana as crucial to her socio-economic development, would also be considered when the biennial discussions for economic cooperation between the two countries open in December.
The discussions would identify areas of support and cooperation over the next five years.
Vice President Mahama welcomed the support of KFW, which has committed about 2.5 billion dollars in soft loans and grants, since it started operating in Ghana about 20 years ago.
The corporation’s assistance, focused mainly on the decentralisation programme, water supply, electricity, rehabilitation of training schools and building of roads.
