Germans are not racist -DAAD Country Director

Kumasi, Feb 9, GNA- Mr Harald Olk, the Country Director of DAAD, a German Academic Exchange Service, on Thursday described as erroneous the impression held by some people that Germans were racists. He said Germans were friendly as backed by the fact that about 10 per cent of that county’s population was made up of foreigners, including students resident in Germany.

Mr Olk was speaking at a seminar organized under the theme, “Career Opportunities in German Institutions”, by the College of Art and Social Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), in Kumasi.

He commended Ghanaian students studying in German Universities for their excellent academic performance, for which that country was looking forward to admitting many more Ghanaians into its higher institutions of learning.

Mr Olk announced that over 100 Ghanaian students had scholarships to study at the various German universities every year. He, therefore, advised Ghanaian students to take their studies seriously since such assistance was based strictly on good academic work.

Professor Daniel Buor, Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences of the KNUST, also urged students to study hard so that they could pass their examinations, reminding them that there existed a lot of opportunities for them to exploit after attaining good academic qualifications.

Mr Ralph Nyadu-Addo, Liaison Officer for Industrial and Professional Relations of the College of Art and Social Sciences and an alumnus of a German University, commended the Country Director of DAAD, for educating the students about opportunities they could utilise in German Universities.

He promised that he would work hard to sustain the cordial relationship between Ghanaians students and DAAD.
