German Swiss international school takes on new image

Accra, Nov. 8, GNA – Mr. Alex Tettey-Enyo, Minister of Education, has noted that the development of the youth as future leaders is very crucial, in the current fast and increasingly complex world in order to keep pace with new trends.

He said Ghana as a gateway in the West African sub- region was committed to provide and support quality education at all levels to facilitate the growth of the youth.

Mr. Tettey- Enyo made this known in a speech read on his behalf at the inauguration of German Swiss International School in Accra. Established 40 years ago, the school was formerly known as Ramseyer Memorial. It is a primary and junior high school facility, where the 75 pupils are taught German, Swiss, and English. Mr. Tettey-Enyo said the school would no doubt afford the pupils the opportunity to study in a bilingual environment with the view of gaining fluency and proficiency in languages.

He said government was making efforts to provide quality education for all children in the country regardless of nationality, creed and background and had also helped to cement the good relations that exist between the people. He commended the school authorities for realising the need to open its doors to other nationals.

Mr. Tettey-Enyo expressed the hope that the birth of the school would widen patronage for Ghanaian pupils to make it easy for the positive transformation of Ghana- German- Swiss relations. Mr. Nicolas Lang, Swiss Ambassador, commended those who established the school for their determination, farsightedness and perseverance. Mr. Herr Hans Christian Winkler, Charge d’Affaires at the German Embassy said his country had since 2008 become a statutory partner of the school. 8 Nov. 09
