German NGO to assist physically challenged

Nkoranza (B/A), Sept 1, GNA – A German Non-Government Organisation (NGO), known as ‘Ananse support for people with special needs’, is to support physically challenged people in the Nkoranza district of Brong-Ahafo.

Two members of the association, Mr Tim Kayser and Mr Rudiger Gailing, have visited Nkoranza and studied problems facing such persons and would report to the headquarters of the association on how best to assist them.

Mr Richard Awumbra, peripatetic officer of Nkoranza district education office, who led the two Germans in the exercise told Ghana News Agency they visited a number of the physically challenged persons in their homes and interacted with them.

He said the German NGO had already established co-operation with the Shalom Special School for the mentally handicapped in the area and had been providing it with financial and logistical assistance. Mr Awumbura said parents of such persons had been advised not to feel shy about them but to love them, send them to school and encourage them “since disability is not incapability”.
