An eight-member medical team of the NGO made up of two surgeons, two nurses, two anaesthesias logists and two medical assistants, undertook the exercise that was sponsored by Pro-Interplast, Ghana, a Ghanaian NGO.

The leader of the group, Dr William Hecklei, told journalists at Atibie that it was the third time a medical team from Interplast Germany, was offering free medical treatment at the hospital. He said individuals, organizations and corporations donated equipment and drugs for the exercise.

Dr Hecklei said Interplast Germany, established in 1979, had offered free medical treatment to a number of patients in Europe, Africa and Asia with the assistance of medical personnel on holidays. He said a number of patients had already been screened for orthopaedic, plastic and general operations and commended medical personnel of the hospital for assisting the NGO to implement the programme.
