German navy task group to visit Ghana

Accra, March 13, GNA – A German navy task group will pay a four-day informal visit to Ghana from March 23 as part of its annual training programme which focuses on Africa this year.

A statement from the group, consisting of two frigates, a destroyer and auxiliaries, would be under the command of Commander Hartmuth Wichmann of the Second German Frigate Squadron.

The Germans would hold joint exercises with the Ghana Navy, the statement said, adding that the visit would offer opportunities for further strengthening of relations between the two countries.

The ships, which left Germany on March one, are expected back in Germany on June 24. The first port of call is Tema. Other ports to be visited are Walvis Bay, Namibia, Cape Town and Siminstown in South Africa, Lagos, Nigeria, Dakar, Senegal, and Tunis, Tunisia.
